Performance Responsibilities
- To develop Reading Achievement Plans (RAP) for each student qualifying for services according to state and district guidelines.
- To provide intensive reading instruction to all students qualifying based on state and district required assessments.
- To help ensure compliance with the Reading Sufficiency Act requirements at the site level.
- To submit required reports on time to the Oklahoma State Department of Education as required by the RSA Law.
- Serve on various Reading Curriculum Committees to develop/adjust district wide Curriculum Maps, assessments, textbooks selections, etc.
- Attend site PLC meetings, serve on RTI committee (site and district).
- Be available to do workshops on reading for parents and teachers.
- Collaborate with district leadership, other reading specialists on the development of the District Reading Sufficiency Act Plan.
- To develop and update the site Reading Sufficiency Act (RSA) Plan according to state law.
- To inform/update principals, teachers and staff of changes made to Site RSA Plan and Law.
- Collaborate with other site reading specialists at least monthly to help coordinate district wide programs, ideas, and resources as well as any changes to the RSA Law.
- To oversee all testing required by RSA Law, train teachers on the administration of the assessments, help interpret assessment data to develop a RAP plan for qualifying students.
- To complete required forms needed to place student on a RAP plan in a timely manner.
- Together with classroom teacher, notify parents of the RAP plan for their child, gain signature of the parent for service and maintain records of services provided.
- Keep parents informed of student progress through progress reports, parent/teacher conferences, and any other form of communication.
- Serve as a resource for the teachers and parents.
- To organize parent nights, parent communication, etc. in partnership with other teachers and staff including Title 1 Reading teachers.
- May serve as After School Coordinator for after school tutoring as deemed by the principal according to site needs.
- May serve as Summer Reading Academy Coordinator as deemed by district leadership/principal.
- Communicates with principal, teachers, and district leadership to determine resources may be needed and purchased through RSA funds.
- Keeps accurate and complete records.
- Maintains appropriate emotional control, emotional health, and personal appearance.
- Maintains confidentiality.
- Abides by all district, federal and state laws, policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Physical Demands
- Ability to stand, walk, squat frequently.
- Ability to lift up to 10 pounds frequently.
- Ability to do outside duties in inclement weather.
- Ability to walk or move long distances from location to location around the building.
